What happens when people can make their own clothing? We can already 3D print guns and other things. We have spray-on fabric that we saw at a fashion show. It's really not going to be that long until people are able to spray on their own clothes.
So what happens to the whole fashion industry once that happens? I think that having a brand becomes even more important because if someone chooses to buy and wear the products of a certain brand, it's kind of like a social uniform in a sense. It's choosing to support and rep a brand or an ideology, personality, a vibe, anything that that brand represents. it's allowing people to demonstrate who and what they represent and what they want to showcase and share with the world so developing a brand is going to be increasingly important in a world where a it's easy to start companies find a supplier in in Asia to supply the clothing and slap a logo on it or even and not having a logo as well.
And then when the cost of production becomes so low that people can just make it themselves, you don't need to have a third-party supplier. People will purposely choose to have one because they want to represent that brand when they leave their house.
