How to make decisions quickly

01:33

Something I have trouble with is moving quickly sometimes because when I'm developing an output or working on a project, I often want it to be perfect on the first try or in as few tries as possible. And that sometimes leads me to taking longer than anticipated to get something done.

And so one way that I've been working on combating that is evaluating the impact of a decision. If something can easily be changed after I've produced it, then I shouldn't take too much time. And I should make the best decision I can within the moment or with very little research necessary.

If something requires a bit more time, meaning that maybe I need an approval or two, or I need to do a little bit more research, then make the best guess, but document the decision and how I arrived at that decision, but still make it and leave a note.

If something requires me to make a decision and it cannot be changed after, or it is very difficult to change after, then yes, take the time needed to do the appropriate research, talk to the people I need to, document the approvals in the thought process in order to justify that decision when if it is challenged later on.
